PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Adidas Summer Slam: Game Report I

We took another trip down to Fishers to the Fieldhouse to check out Bryan Alexander's AAU event, the Adidas Summer Slam. Close to 50 teams from across the midwest came to face off in front of a host of college coaches. We will be featuring some game summaries and scouting reports from a handful of games over the next few days.

    Flint Sparks 52 - Team Indiana 17s 74

Team Indiana ran out to a double-digit lead before Flint narrowed the gap to a couple baskets by the half. But the second half was all Team Indiana as they pulled away with the 74-52 win. Angie Bush (2006, 5'10, Morgan Township (IN)) paced Team Indiana with 20 points, followed by 14 from Stacie Shepard (2006, 5'9, Carmel (IN)), 11 from Lauren McRoberts (2009, 6'1, Carmel (IN)) and 13 points from Notre Dame commit Danielle Ben-Tsvulun (2006, 6'3, Fort Wayne Harding (IN)). Flint Was led by Briana Hendrix's (2006, 5'5, Grand Blanc (MI)) 15 points, followed by Lonise Coulter (2006, 6'1, Flint Northern (MI)) and Kiley Salomon (2006, 5'3, Flushing (MI)) with eight a piece.

Danielle Ben-Tsvulun (Team Indiana, 2006, 6'3, Fort Wayne Harding (IN)) - Not overly mobile, but strong in the post who has good defensive skills. She is rough on the players she defends and is definitely a banger. She played a majority of the game with her back to the basket. Tends too much to get her post position, then cement herself waiting for the inlet. The problem comes when the pass is not exactly on the mark, and her firm position doesn't allow her to react. Showed a nice baby hook and power drop step, but needs to develop secondary moves as some defenders found her readable, and she was blocked cleanly twice against the Sparks. Solid at the line, but her accuracy got worse as the game progressed, and she was seen to push the ball more causing the shots to fall short. Strong on the boards and impressive with the outlet off a defensive rebound. She pushes the offense with quick passes to get the ball out on the break, and accurate passing for distance with one hand or two.

Anna Weber (Team Indiana, 2005, 5'11, Roncalli (IN)) - Big upper body player who played power forward when Ben-Tsvulun was in the post, but moved down low when she was on the bench. Gets off her feet quickly. Exceptional hands and passing skills. Sees the offense and threads passes better than most guards. Floated out to the high post and executed a blindside behind the back bounce pass that hit a cutting guard in stride. Looks off her defenders before passing and is still successful, as she does not need to see a spot to hit it. Not much offense on display, but very functional offensively handling the ball, assisting, and setting screens.

Lauren McRoberts (Team Indiana, 2009, 6'1, Carmel (IN)) - Highly skilled underclassmen who is fundamentally ahead of the curve. A small forward who can create her own offense. More of a mid-range shooter and inside rebounder on offense, as I did not get a good look at her perimeter skills in this game. Solid defender with her arms up and low stance, plus she does the little things on the perimeter like block out defenders after the shot. A quick player who is an equal part of an offense that features a mix of ages up through graduated seniors. A player to watch as a potential high Division I recruit.

Lonise Coulter (Flint Sparks, 2006, 6'1, Flint Northern (MI)) - Stands out as an athlete, playing some center on this team but better facing where she can take advantage of her speed. Has the body and first step to play small forward. A mobile post player who was successful against Ben-Tsvulun because she could out-pivot her. Drawback is the resulting shots of the post moves are a little unsquare, but still hits a fair amount of them. Good timing on blocking shots.
