    Curry quotes on new signees

The following are comments from Coach Curry released yesterday on her four newest Boilermakers.

Danielle Campbell - "Danielle comes from a tradition-rich high school at Whitney Young. She is a rare triple threat; she gives us size, athleticism and versatility. She is eager to learn, and she is a hard worker. Her potential is unbelievable, and we think she will have a chance to make an immediate impact."

Stephanie Helgeson - "Stephanie will help us fill a void in the middle. She is fundamentally sound and brings a tremendous amount of skill at the post position. She plays on a very good high school team, and her AAU program, Domino's, is one of the best in the country. Plain and simple, she knows how to win."

Jodi Howell - "Jodi is one of the premier pure shooters in the country. Having been coached by her dad, she grew up in a gym and learned how to make herself into a great player. Beyond her physical talent, she also is a true student of the game."

Lauren Mioton - "We watched Lauren this summer and felt she would be a great addition to our backcourt. She's a sleeper in this class. She is an outstanding shooter, has great court savvy and is a tremendous student of the game. She also is an excellent student in the classroom."

    Future Watch - Denise Tate

With Purdue's recruiting dance card filled for the Class of 2005, the staff now looks ahead to 2006 and beyond. But a recent blurb in the Cleveland Plain Dealer had Purdue at one time looking at Glenville (OH) post player Denise Tate. It's not hard to see why the staff was looking in her direction. The 6'1 Tate averaged 16.7 rebounds per game as a junior, behind 15.6 points and 4.2 blocks.

We like to post these when we see them even when all scholarships have been given out for the player's graduating class. Because you never know when a player might go to junior college and pop back up on the Purdue radar in two years, or if the player might join the team later as a walkon. Tate might be a name to file away in the back of your mind for such a situation.

Michigan gets a good one, eh?

The University of Michigan grabbed Canada's top player in Stephany Skrba, a 6'2 forward from Langstaff Secondary School (ONT). Skrba was heavily recruited by Division I programs, including Syracuse, Wake Forest and UCLA, and was said to have been contacted by 120 programs.

Skrba averages 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. She also played for her country in the FIBA Americas Under 18 World Championship Tournament, hitting for a double-double in three games against national competition. Team Canada finished with a 4-1 record.
