PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
2004 Nike Camp Evaluations: Players 41 - 60

#41 Deirdre Naughton, 5'11, Willmette (New Trier) IL (2005) PHOTO
Evaluation 1: Active, intense player with court savvy. Gets open and can find the open teammate.

Evaluation 2: Naughton steadily improved as the Nike Camp progressed, a vocal leader from the wing. Naughton was everywhere on the floor. Defensively, she does a good job in reading her man, watching the waist when her opponent drives and a piercing stare into the eyes when the dribble is picked up. I would almost say her defensive efforts were outstanding, as she stuck out in that regard. She was effective as a zone buster on Wednesday, hitting two of three in one segment of play from the right wing. I wouldn't call her a pure shooter, but she is effective. She kind of shoots off her right side, a little unbalanced. But it works well for her.

#42 Whitney Jones, 5'6, West Monroe (West Monroe) LA (2006)
    No impressions recorded.

#43 Megan Edwards, 5'7, Des Plaines (Maine West) IL (2005)
Hard worker, stays within herself. Good handle, decisive passer.

#44 Kristi Toliver, 5'8, Harrisonburg (Harrisonburg) PA (2005) PHOTO
Evaluation 1: Smooth & quick with great passing skills. Quiet player with great defensive form. Excellent shooter from corner.

Evaluation 2: We saw Toliver in roles as a point and shooting guard during the camp. Defensively she is effective guarding both positions, and she doesn't give her man much room to work as she is right up on them. Her footwork and lateral movement is good enough she can play tight defense without getting burned too often. Offensively, she did not seem to miss from the perimeter and has a nice mid-range game to go with her perimeter game. Very smooth mid-range game with a sweet form and nice follow through.

#45 Enonge' Stovall, 6'0, Philadelphia (Archbishop John Carroll) PA (2005)
Smooth drives, runs fast and finishes. Moves well on defense. Looks to drive and pass.

#46 Sherriel Boyd, 5'8, Bellflower (Narbonne) CA (2005) PHOTO
Always around ball. Quick hands, athletic shooter with range.

#47 Earnesia Williams, 6'0, Sapulpa (Sapulpa) OK (2005)
Athletic and explosive with some excellent footwork. She elevates well with nice high release. Possesses a nice all-around game and mix of skills, and did a wonderful job of mixing up her offensive weapons. She's smooth when slashing, has a sharp short game, and hit a decent percentage from the perimeter.

#48 Jordan Greenleaf, 6'0, Rex (Morrow) GA (2006) PHOTO
Does the little things that are important. Scrappy, hard worker.

#49 Yolanda Lavender, 5'9, Capitol (Riverdale Baptist) MD (2005)
Acrobatic with good handle, occasionally out of control. Fakes and dishes well. Very accurate pullup shooter.

#50 Carrem Gay, 6'2, Valley (Christ the King) NY (2005) PHOTO PHOTO
Evaluation 1: A real gem, has it all. Silky smooth, athletic player with a deadly jump hook and deceptive quicks. Great handle for tall girl. Aggressive to the boards and finishes well.

Evaluation 2: I thought Gay was smooth last summer, yet she's gotten silky this year. She aggresively attacks on offense and defense, and has an eye for rebounds. More active that most girls her size. Her ability to run the floor with the guards and not suffer in ballhandling makes her a weapon in a fast paced game. While no statistics were taken, I would imagine her scoring ranked among the top 10-percent, and her shooting percentage was mid-40s. She just doesn't seem to miss many shots, primarily because she doesn't take too many bad shots. It's redundant to say she plays well within her game, because she does everything so well. A standout among this year's camp attendees.

#51 Ashley Powell, 5'7, Detroit (Murray Wright) MI (2005) PHOTO PHOTO
Quick, athletic player who looks for every advantage and opportunity. Occasionally overplays.

#52 Iman McFarland, 6'3, Temple Hills (Bishop McNamara) MD (2005)
Evaluation 1: Slender player with major hops. Great defender who anticipates well. Relentless on the boards.

Evaluation 2: McFarland showed something more this year I hadn't expected, a perimeter shot. Not only was it effective, but she nailed one over a forward with her hand in her face. She has a very high release and still gets good rotation on the ball when putting it up under pressure over defenders. Still has that blue-collar work ethic down low. She leverages herself to move her man when posting up offensively. She didn't strike me as a banger, more of a "pusher" for lack of a better word. She can apply some force to a defender, a skill that will help her avoid fouls in college from players experienced in flopping and drawing a refs attention. Her post defense is the most active I saw at the camp. The opposing player knows she will be worked over if she tries to sit in the low post and wait for the pass. Can switch rather quickly from behind her opponent to around the front side to deny.

#53 Erika Arriaran, 5'10, Norco (Norco) CA (2005) PHOTO
Evaluation 1: Major impact player. Whirlwind of action, seemingly everywhere on the court. Dramatically affects the game when playing. She is the total package from offense to defense.

Evaluation 2: No suspense here -- my top player from the 2004 Nike Camp. Arriaran has always been a highly skilled, complete player. Yet last year I thought her aggressiveness, both physical and vocal, was taking away from her effectiveness. It was immediately noticable this year that she was a calmer leader, and she intensified that leadership as the days went on. Last year's camp seemed to be peppered with many "look at me" types of verbalizations, where she let her game do more of the talking this year. Not that she is any more quiet. She barks out commands to her teammates, is the first to get on them for missed assignments and the first to pat them on the back for making plays. She really worked teammates Marshae Dotson, who had to spend quite a bit of time battling players inches taller. What she recognized in Dotson was a player with some power that knew the flow of the offense. So she was fond of telling Dotson where to be. Not because Dotson needed to be told, but because Dotson was a player who "gets it", and Arriaran uses players well once she gets feel a for their game. She may not have had the best shooting percentage, but can easily get herself open for shots. Defenders notice that the angle of her feet telegraph exactly her next move, but you get the impression she knows this and baits players to move with her as she passed back behind them into the post. In summary, I think Arriaran's best quality is her ability to manipulate her teammates and her defenders. Everything else is all good too.

#57 Sireece Bass, 5'7, Detroit (Pershing) MI (2006) PHOTO
Classic bottle rocket player. Plays intense and aggressive with great offensive skills though needs to let game come to her.

#58 Nicci Miller, 5'10, Denver (Hinkley) CO (2005)
Aggressive and looks to drive with good passing skills. Active on the offensive glass.

    More evaluations to come!
