PURDUE MENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
A mid-summer look at 2005 and 2006

With the major boys elite camps coming to a close this week, here are updates on a few of the prospects with Purdue on their minds.

2005 Ray Brown (6'6, SG, Richfield High (MN)) -- While Brown has mentioned interest in Purdue, the 6'6 scorer has two favorites -- Minnesota and Iowa State. He also has an offer from Northern Iowa. Playing close to home will be a strong determining factor in his decision.

2005 Marcus Landry (6'6, F, Milwaukee Vincent High (WI)) -- While Wisconsin continues to be the early leader, Purdue along with Marquette, Iowa and newly offering Connecticut are all on the list. Landry has expressed interest in owning a restaurant, and he believes Wisconsin has the best line of study for that. In a recent article in the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, Landry listed his brother and Coach Matt Painter as positives for Purdue.

2005 Nate Minnoy (6'3, SF, Hales Franciscan High (IL)) -- Was averaging 18 points per game through four games at the ABCD Camp. He was the high scorer at the camp on Day 1 with 25 points and four boards in 20 minutes. In the other game on Day 1, Minnoy scored 19 points and grabbed seven boards.

2005 DeAndre Thomas (6'7, PF, Chicago Westinghouse High (IL)) -- Reportedly is having another outstanding camp, added to the list of very solid performances this summer at the USA Developmental Camp and the NBA Developmental Camp.

2005 Ryan Williams (6'0, PG, Jonesboro High, (AR)) -- Williams has been a recruiting target of Painter since his days at Southern Illinois. He averaged 30 points, five rebounds and six assists last season, and claims Painter's promotion to the Big Ten is "icing on the cake." In an interview with the South Bend Tribune, Williams admitted to have developed a good relationship with Painter, and stated it would be "a privilege to play under somebody like that." Williams has not yet been offered a Purdue scholarship, but he believes that is close to happening.

2006 Cory Johnson (6'6, F, Duluth East High (MN)) -- Is being marked as the top player at any position in Minnesota's class of 2006. His father played college basketball at Oregon State. He averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore, and 20 points and 8.8 rebounds as a freshman. His unofficial visits have included Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa and Marquette. Minnesota, Marquette, Iowa, and Wisconsin Green-Bay so far have offered him scholarships, with Purdue, Illinois, Creighton, Arizona, Notre Dame and Michigan State. He seems to have a systematic approach to making a decision. He plans to visit the schools that interest him, scrimmage with the team, and see if he feels at home. Playing close to home is a plus, but it isn't going to keep him from going more of a distance away if he sees a good fit. He plays with the Howard Pulley AAU program.

2006 Jerod Leonard (6'4, G, DeSmet Jesuit (MO)) -- Purdue is among his favorites, a list that also includes St. Louis, Missouri, Kansas and Mississippi. He played for the Saint Louis Eagles AAU program with Purdue's Xavier Price.

2006 Andrew Ott (6'9, PF, Germantown Academy Prep (PA)) -- Purdue is on his list with Penn State, Villanova, Illinois and Wake Forest. At camp he said Illinois is always sending him stuff in the mail, and Villanova and Penn State have both offered scholarships.

2006 Alexander Tyus (6'7, WF, Hazelwood Central (MO)) -- Early indications are this athletic forward could be the best in the Missouri class of 2006. Purdue is showing interest, as are many schools not limited to Missouri and Kansas.
