    2005: Ashley Walker

Davis High (11-3) entered the Tracy Breakfast Lions Tournament as the media favorite, but slipped in the second game to lose their shot at the title.

Ashley Walker opened the tournament last Friday with an emphatic scoring statement -- 33 points and 14 boards -- in a 73-60 win over East Union.

In game two, Davis fell to Sierra (8-1) 59-58. Walker scored three points with 30 seconds remaining to put Davis High up by one, but the team could not stop four shots in that final half of a minute by Sierra. The last one went in with 3.7 seconds remaining. Walker finished with only 11 points under heavy defense coming off her 33-point performance the night before.

In the final game of the Tracy Tournament on Wednesday evening, Walker scored 27 points to lead Davis over Beyer 57-35.

A week earlier, Davis went 3-0 to win the Ceres Tournament. That tournament featured one of Walker's best games of the season. In the team's 62-41 win over Bret Harte, Walker had a triple double with 24 points, 19 rebounds and 11 steals. Over the three-game tournament, Walker averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds.

    2004: Brina Pollack

For the first time this season, Brina Pollack led all scorers with 18 points in a 54-35 win over Ocean. The Marlboro defense held Ocean to just five points in the first half.

Pollack was named to the all-tournament team as Marlboro won their fourth straight Kuhnert Memorial Tournament championship last Tuesday. Marlboro led 24-15 at the half of the championship game against Colts Neck, with Pollack dishing four assists and making three steals in that first half of play. She would go on to score 15 points, and Marlboro would stretch the lead to the final score of 50-37.

Marlboro advanced to the final game by defeating Freehold, 68-36. Pollack scored eight points during the Mustangs' game-opening 21-0 run.

    2004: Natasha Bogdanova

Two big back-to-back scoring performances by Bogdanova this past week. She is filling a forward role with Charlotte Christian this season. In the Nike Holiday Hoops Tournament last Monday, Christian played California's Canyon Springs, beating them 59-51. Bogdanova finished with 28 points.

Thursday brought the opening round game of the Dell Curry Shootout, matching No. 1 West Charlotte and No. 2 Charlotte Christian. With a reported six college coaches in the stands scouting, Christian dominated defensively and won 72-53. Christian shot 62-percent for the game and was led by junior center Katie Rollins with 18 points. Bogdanova finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and a block.

Game two of the Dell Curry Shootout, the tables turned as Christian lost by the almost identical margin of victory in their previous game against West Charlotte. Victory Christian beat Charlotte Christian 73-54 using full-court pressure. That pressure held every Charlotte Christian player under eight points for the game -- except Bogdanova. Shooting 40-percent from the floor, Bogdanova finished with 29 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Charlotte Christian is defending North Carolina 3A Independent champion, while Victory won the North Carolina 1A private title last season. Victory's key player is 6'2 junior forward Kyria Buford, who is drawing attention from Tennessee, UCONN, NC State and North Carolina.
