    Curry sighting

Coach Kristy Curry was seen in attendance at last week's Marion County Tournament matchup between North Central and Brebeuf. The focus of her attention was two of the top players in the state on the floor at the same time -- 6'5 freshman Ta'Shia Phillips and 6'6 sophomore Amber Harris.

Purdue looking at Michigan home schooled prospect

Kristi Veltkamp, a 6'2 post player from Lansing (MI), is seeing attention from Purdue, along with Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana. She averaged 22.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, seven blocked shots and three steals on a team featuring player in home schooling. Veltkamp has been noticed as being one of the state's toughest post players.

    McCurdy getting attention from Purdue

Myia McCurdy, a 6-2 forward/guard from Winton Woods HS, OH, is getting attention from Purdue, Vanderbilt and Duke. She's grown since averaging 10.3 points and 4.2 steals per game as a freshman, and now as a sophomore is considered one of the top players nationally.

lakisha Freeman named to Dream Team

Lakisha Freeman was named to the girls basketball Dream Team by the Detroit News. Freeman finished her final season of high school competition averaging 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.5 assists and 3.0 blocked shots. She shot 46-percent from the field and 73-percent from the line.

Freeman also finished fourth for the 2003 Michigan Miss Basketball award. St. Ignace's Krista Clement won the title with 745 points in voting by Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. Finishing second was West Bloomfield's Samantha Mahoney (414), followed by Grand Haven's Maggie Dwyer (293) and Freeman (259). In the 23 years of voting, Purdue has yet to sign a Michigan Miss Basketball.

    Ramblings

Indianapolis Pike head coach Amy Cherubini on 6'5 Brebeuf freshman Ta'Shia Phillips ... "Ta'Shia is just so strong. We had two or three people hanging on her and she was still going up and throwing shots in. She's going to be something special. She already is."
