PURDUE WOMENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Recruiting Update: Top state freshman to visit Sunday

Top freshman set to visit Sunday

Indianapolis Lutheran 6'0 freshman Laura Bugher is scheduled to pay Purdue an unofficial visit on Sunday. Bugher, a highly versatile player, is the top scorer in the state in the freshman class.

Lutheran was bounced from the IHSAA tournament in the first round on Tuesday by a buzzer-beating bomb from the perimeter by Morristown. Bugher finished her freshman year with a 28 point, 20 rebound performance.

Bugher has visited Purdue before, and will probably make it to campus many more times before she chooses a college to call home. Both her parents, one uncle and her maternal grandfather are all Purdue grads. Coach Curry and staff have been keeping an eye on Laura since her middle school days.

Also scheduled to visit with Bugher is Lutheran teammate Lindsay Mayo, a 5'6 freshman guard.

Gearlds moving in on Jacoby scoring mark

Jennifer Jacoby left Rossville in 1991 ranked second on the all-time career scoring leaders list. Her 2,344 points were 77 short of becoming Indiana's all-time scoring leader, an honor then held by North Judson's Debbie Bolen. Now, Bolen and Jacoby rank fourth and fifth respectively, as Abby Conklin, Stephanie White and Shanna Zolman have since come along to bump them down the list of leaders.

Now, Jacoby is looking at sliding another spot at the hands of a future Boilermaker. Katie Gearlds, who won her first ever Indiana high school tournament game on Tuesday, needs just 16 points to take over the fifth spot among career scorers. With Gearlds averaging almost 30 points per game, bumping Jacoby looks inevitable. However, if Beech Grove can win a few more games and make it to the semi-state game, while Gearlds continues to hit her average, Gearlds could finish as high as fourth on that list.

    IHSAA All-Time Career Scoring Leaders
    1. Shanna Zolman, Wawasee, 3,085
    2. Stephanie White, Seeger, 2,869
    3. Abby Conklin, Charlestown, 2,616
    4. Debbie Bolen, North Judson, 2,421
    5. Jennifer Jacoby, Rossville, 2,344
    6. Katie Gearlds, Beech Grove, 2,329
