PURDUE MENS BASKETBALL RECRUITING:
Everyone on campus; Stephens bring spare tire

Coach Keady has reported that all the players and recruits are on campus for the fall semester. Yes, that means Cam Stephens is back in the fold, but will have some catching up to do to get rid of a spare tire he has developed. Now if we can get John Allison to add the "freshman fifteen"... or twenty...

The Recruiter's Handbook, one of the few publications I have bothered to subscribe to in the past, has Keady's incoming recruits ranked as the 27th best class in the nation. At the top of the list, according to the publication, is Greg McQuay at #34. Remembering back close to four years ago, Greg McQuay was the one that was ranked in the top50 consistently by the rags until it became clear he wasn't going to qualify. Interesting how a kid's poor academic status will hurt his basketball ranking, but you never hear of a kid with solid basketball talent being benefitted by an outstanding academic record.

Hoop Scoop is reporting that Nathan Popp has eliminated both Kentucky and Northwestern from his list, and is down to Tennessee, California, Purdue and Ohio State. Both Ohio State and Cal have recently added skilled big men, but Ohio State is getting their center from the JUCO ranks which may not work against their recruitment of Popp. However, it is commonly understood that Ohio State has only one remaining priority...signing a point guard. Speaking of Ohio State's newest recruit, 7'3 Aleksandar Radojevic from Barton County CC, Radojevic was getting looks from Purdue before he decided to be a Buckeye.

A prospect close to the Lafayette area is starting to get some major attention. Valpo, Georgia and Michigan State are taking good looks at 6'5 sophomore Jay Dawson from Benton Central. His range extends to 22', he sees the floor very well, and will make a good wing in college. We were able to take a look at Dawson during the Merrillville Memorial Day tournament back in May of this year.
