The Purdue staff continues to tour Indiana high schools, looking at several underclassmen. Division I programs are currently in a contact period, where evaluation is allowed at the site of a prospect's educational institution. It runs through October 5th. Two more visits are on the calendar for Thursday.Jay Price accompanied Coach on the Tuesday visits to Washington and White River Valley. Coach talked for about 25 minutes at Washington on what he expects from his players. He also commented that in the mid 90's he had abandoned his half court style to bring in recruits. It didn't work so he's going back to what made him successful.
Price and Keady then watched practice for about 45 minutes.
On Thursday, Keady and Price will make two more southern Indiana stops. The first in Madison. Of interest is 6'4 freshman shooting guard Norman Wells. Then the two are on to Seymour. Of interest there is 6'5 junior Jon Pierce.
I received an email asking if Keady is inviting these players to Mackey Magic when he goes to visit them. Keady is not allowed, per NCAA rules.
NCAA IC 11/29/94, Item No. 4 states...Your institution’s coach may not contact a prospect’s coach for the purpose of inviting a specific prospect (who has yet to begin his or her junior year in high school) to visit an institution’s campus, even if your coach does not intend to provide the prospect with a complimentary admission to attend a home contest.
This rule directly applies to Mackey Magic, because a home contest is a campus athletic event. IC 4/20/95, Item No. 6 goes on to clarify that an on-campus intrasquad scrimmage that is open to the general public is a campus athletic event "even if no admission is charged."
We're also hearing 2005 5'10 point guard Dominic James of Richmond may be attending Mackey Magic on October 19th. James is an outstanding player, and lacks just a couple inches from being able to write his own ticket.
